Solving the Concrete Moisture Issue: Commercial, Environmental, and Health Benefits of Impermeable Concrete
11:05 AM - 12:05 PM
This Program addresses the impact of traditional & impermeable concrete inside & outside the building envelope. It discusses methods to improve durability and consequent sustainability of all concrete applications. It discusses the concrete industries' efforts to lower the carbon footprint. It provides a solution to moisture & flooring problems as well as water and damp-proof concrete. Techniques and materials used to permanently repair concrete are discussed.

Electronic Leak Detection: Lessons Learned from ELD Testing and Continuous Monitoring
12:10 PM - 01:10 PM
This one hour course will cover the lessons learned from multiple case studies regarding Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) quality control testing as part of new construction, forensic testing in existing buildings with active leaks, and continuous moisture monitoring for conventional roofing. Participants will learn about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231, and will be able to identify common causes for moisture intrusion.

The Evolution of Self-leveling Technology 101
02:40 PM - 03:40 PM
The Evolution of Self-Leveling Technology 101 will examine the five elements in leveling compounds, their significance, their importance in achieving desired characteristics and how that impacts the soundness of the subfloor and foundation. The binder is the most important ingredient in any leveling compound which includes gypsum, Portland and calcium aluminate cement. Binders are the key to developing a material that is safe and stable. The geological and historical use of each binder will be reviewed from their development in the construction of historical buildings and presence in artifacts, to their use in modern architecture. Each type of leveling compound will be explored, properties discussed, benefits and disadvantages acknowledged, and recommended applications for each type examined allowing the specifier to choose the best material and method for each job site. Participants will benefit from this instruction learning how to properly select the best-suited leveling compound and will be able to make the best decision on appropriate measures to correct substrate challenges to properly prepare subfloors for successful, sustainable, environmentally friendly, sound flooring installations.

Demystify Sealants: Product Selection, Performance, and Applications.
03:55 PM - 04:55 PM
This course equips architects and construction professionals with the technical knowledge needed to select, specify, and apply the right sealant for every project condition. Participants explore the major sealant families — silicone, polyurethane, hybrid (MS Polymer/STPE), acrylic latex, and butyl — and learn how chemistry drives performance differences in UV resistance, lifespan, temperature range, and substrate adhesion.
The course examines structural versus non-structural applications, including curtain wall glazing systems, perimeter seals, and expansion joints, and walks through proper joint design, surface preparation, backing, and tooling techniques. Key ASTM test methods (C920, C719, C1521, D412, D4587) are decoded so participants can confidently read and compare product data sheets. Environmental considerations, indoor air quality impacts, GREENGUARD Gold certification, and contributions to LEED v4 credits are also addressed. The course concludes with sealant specification guidance under CSI Division 7 and Division 8.
